Character

Zahlia

The great enchantress — a dark elf of Remedy and The Forgotten, banished to the unknown universe with Uaellaen.

Overview

"Uaellaen can end a war with a word. Wreckreate can unmake the spell behind it. I can make sure neither of them wants to. You try putting a price on that." — Zahlia

Zahlia was a great enchantress — a dark elf and one of the most accomplished working enchanters of her age, and a member of Remedy. When The Drop came, she was among the six banished to the unknown universe, and she is one of the first The Forgotten — the core party that has been adventuring through the new world from the start.

Where Uaellaen commands raw elemental force and Wreckreate rewrites the rules of magic, Zahlia shapes intention itself. Enchantment is not spellcasting — it is a conversation with the will of a thing, a person, or an idea, and Zahlia is the most fluent speaker of that language anyone has ever met.

Habitat

She is home to wherever a bargain is being made, because that is where enchantment lives. In the old world she kept with Remedy, and her work was everywhere in that world — in the bridges, the wards, and the promises — and most of it did not know it. In this one she keeps with the six, and she is the one most likely to figure out what the new world wants, because enchantment, at its core, is asking. She is at home in the doorway, the threshold, and the half-second before a thing says yes.

Appearance

Lean and coiled like a bowstring just before it speaks — the silhouette of a woman who has spent a lifetime leaning close to things that should not be leaned close to. Zahlia stands 1.68 m and moves half a beat slower than the room around her, which never once feels like slowness. Her skin is violet-black, deeper on the cheeks and fading to a bruised plum at the throat, and faint violet tracery climbs her forearms like living ink — the mark of long enchantment, the way a sailor's skin carries the sea. Her eyes are molten amber, almost orange, and they hold whatever is looking at them a half-second too long. Black hair streaked with violet is worn long, usually in a single loose braid over one shoulder, threaded with small silver rings that are not jewelry but work. Her ears are long and pointed, and she wears no earrings — charms on the ear do not keep. Her hands are her most famous feature: a ring on every finger, each one a sealed question. She wears layered robes of deep forest green cut for movement, with silver thread at the cuffs and a low, practical collar; underneath, dark leathers and a short blade at the hip that has, so far, been more argument than weapon. Elders of her kind go silver-through and slower; Zahlia is young-elder — the black is still true, the violet tracery still bright, and she is still leaning close.

Warfare & Markings

She fights the way enchantment fights — not a blow but a conversation, and the conversation has a deadline. She will not break your will; she will make your will choose the thing that breaks it, and the choosing is the charm. Her one true mark is the ring on every finger — each one a sealed question, and the sealed questions are her whole arsenal, carried at hand. She wears the short blade at the hip that has been more argument than weapon, and in battle she keeps her hands open, because the open hand is the one that asks.

Behaviour

Warm, sharp, and impossible to bore. Zahlia is the reason the first six have not driven each other mad across universes. She keeps score of everyone's jokes, everyone's debts, and everyone's lies — and she is generous about all three. She is the company's question, and the asking is the point. She is not cruel; she is precise about what things want, and the precision makes her dangerous, and the danger makes her warm.

Magic Alignment

Master enchanting. She can bind intent to objects, places, and — at the apex of her craft — to the choices of living minds. A door enchanted by Zahlia does not merely lock; it refuses. Her signature technique is The Whispered Word — a single word, spoken to a single person, that changes what they believe about a single thing. She has used it on kings, dragons, and once, reluctantly, on a god. Her named working is The Long Charm — enchantments that endure: bridges, wards, and promises that outlast the hands that made them. In the old world's accounting her craft belongs to Lysara, the Sweet Poison — the god of enchantment, will, and the sweet poison of a promise kept. Zahlia worships no one and serves no temple; she is simply fluent in a god's language. The price: enchantment requires consent, leverage, or a price, and Zahlia never cheats a charm — she simply makes sure the other side of the bargain is always worse.

Society

In Remedy she was one of the great working enchanters of her age, and the old world is full of her work. In The Forgotten she is one of the first six — the original adventuring group of The Forgotten in the unknown universe. She is the one the company asks, and the one who asks back, and the asking goes both ways. Outsiders meet the warmth first and the precision second, and the precision is the point.

Culture & Lore

The wiki keeps her as the great enchantress of Remedy and of The Forgotten, and the tale is told mostly by Uaellaen, who has never once figured out how she does what she does. The old world said the enchantress who could charm a god; the new world says the same thing, and is slowly learning that the asking is the point, and the point is the conversation.

Home

She keeps with the six, in no fixed place, in the scriptorium and the threshold of the old world behind her and the unknown universe in front of her. Her truest home is the doorway, and the doorway travels.

Relations

Uaellaen — the company's power, the one she keeps pointed at the right door. Wreckreate — the company's mind, the one she keeps from breaking what he is trying to fix. Remedy — the guild that raised her. The Forgotten — the company she now shapes. Lysara, the Sweet Poison — the god whose language she speaks, and whom she does not serve. In a world where enchantment rules differ from the old world's, she is the one most likely to figure out what the new world wants — because enchantment, at its core, is asking.
