Overview
"Before I tell you of the empires that burned and the gods that bled, let me tell you of myself — for every great tale needs a witness, and I have witnessed the death of divinity itself."
Uaellaen is a Dark Elf archmage of a power so total it has a gravity to it. He is the founder of The Forgotten, the last surviving archmage of the guilds of the old world, and the narrator of this book. He killed gods in at least three known universes and considers the act a nuisance he performed, not a title he wears. Everything written here is filtered through him, and that is not a disclaimer — it is the whole of the method.
Habitat
He keeps no fixed ground. In the old world he moved between Remedy and the ice, and now he moves through the unknown universe the way a current moves through a room — present everywhere, resting nowhere. His home is wherever the story needs a witness, and lately that has been the same six people in the same traveling company for a long time. He is at home in the wild, in the ruin, and in the quiet before a thing that is about to become a war.
Appearance
Tall and gaunt, a dark elf of 1.89 m who carries the elegance of his bloodline twisted by eons of arcane consumption. His frame is slender but dense with power, the way a storm front feels heavy before the first drop. His skin is the color of midnight — deep violet-black with a faint blue luminescence when he channels the planes. His hair is long, silver-white, and falls to his waist, usually worn loose or bound back with a thin cord. His eyes are like fractured obsidian holding cold fire, and they have watched civilizations rise and fall. His ears are long and sharply pointed, notched once near the tip on the left by a blade he never names. His distinguishing mark is the stillness: in a room of moving things, he is the one thing not moving, and the room knows it. Elders of his kind go silver through and through and slow; Uaellaen is old-elder — the silver is total, the eyes still cold, and the hands never shake. He wears layered robes of deep forest green over dark leathers, silver thread at the cuffs, and a low practical collar, with a long staff of white-veined stone that is more argument than weapon.
Warfare & Markings
He fights the way the planes fight — not a technique but a weather. He will not strike where you are; he will change what "where" means. He is ranged by preference, overwhelming in volume, and never surprised because he has already seen the surprise. His one true mark is the notch in his left ear, old and deliberate. In battle he keeps a single empty hand, open, which his six call the open hand — the hand that has ended the last three wars and has not yet decided about this one.
Behaviour
Calm, darkly humorous, and profoundly tired. He speaks in measured tones with a dry wit that cuts deeper than any spell. He is not cruel and he is not kind; he operates on a moral framework he built alone, shaped by watching the same cycles repeat across eternity. He is curious, patient, and quietly furious at anything that blocks what he has decided to see. He narrates this universe because he is bored of universes that do not end well, and he suspects this one might be the exception worth the ink.
"They called themselves Eternal. I called them Tuesday. The distinction matters more than most realise."
Magic Alignment
Apex elementalist and apex conjurer. He holds all four elemental planes at once — Elemental Fusion, his signature, weaving fire and water and air and earth into hybrid forces no ordinary mage can comprehend. His named workings are Primordial Fire, Absolute Water, Tectonic Earth, Atmospheric Air. The Court of Ash is his signature power — a permanent retinue of god-bound and avatar-class elementals bound to him by blood-pact, summoned through the Veil itself. His god-slaying is not a spell; it is the consequence of what happens when a being of his scale meets a being that was never meant to be met. The price: he has not yet used ten percent of what he can do, and the holding back is a weight, and the weight is the cost.
"The first mistake mortals make is thinking power is measured in destruction. It is not. It is measured in restraint."
Society
He is the founder and the first of The Forgotten — a guild of the banished, the abandoned, the forgotten, and the cast out, built in this universe and not the one he came from. He is its mind and its anchor, and the six who travel with him are its first company. Outsiders meet him the way you meet a tide: you are either in it or you are not, and there is no third. He does not lead by command; he leads by being the thing the company stands around.
Culture & Lore
The wiki — this book — is his. Every entry is filtered through him, and the narrator's voice is his voice. The old world called him the god-slayer; the new world calls him whatever it has not yet decided. What is known and repeated across the tales: he is the most powerful being this universe has encountered, he was not in a rush to find his way back, and he has not been found wanting.
"I do not seek a throne. Thrones are for people who need something to sit on."
Home
He keeps with the six, in no fixed place. His truest home is the company itself — Rumzuck Umbatsch, Smackage, Wreckreate, Uuaellaen, and Zahlia — the first and the last of what he was in the old world and the whole of what he is here.
Relations
Rumzuck Umbatsch — his brother, ogre warrior, Remedy's shield; the closest thing he has to warmth. Smackage — his closest friend, ogre warrior, Remedy's heart; the glue. Wreckreate — his arcane equal, the scalpel to his hammer. Uuaellaen — his blood brother, the divine one he can never quite argue with. Zahlia — the great enchantress, the one who asks. Tigole — the halfling mentor who saw a student in the snow. Remedy — his first family. The Forgotten — his second. The demi-god who cast him here — unknown, unmotivated, and the one thread he has not pulled.
In the Story
Everything before is backstory; this universe is the story. He arrives with all his power and all his memory and, against every expectation, not alone. The six adapt, survive, and look for something worth fighting for in a universe none of them know, and he watches it and writes it down. Whether he will intervene is the open question the whole book is built on.
"You ask if I will save them. The question assumes I am capable of not doing so."
Quotes
"Before I tell you of the empires that burned and the gods that bled, let me tell you of myself — for every great tale needs a witness, and I have witnessed the death of divinity itself."
"The Remedy taught me that family isn't blood. It's the people who stand beside you when the world goes to hell. Rumzuck, Smackage, Wreckreate — they were my world. And when it ended... I had to find a new one."
"Tigole taught me in the snow that the universe is bigger than any guild, any god, any war. I thought I understood. I was wrong."
This account is narrated by Uaellaen himself and may contain... artistic embellishments.
