Overview
"Wreckreate could kill a dragon by draining its magic. That's not magic. That's art." — Uaellaen
Wreckreate was an Erudite wizard of terrifying power and precision. He was Uaellaen's closest friend in the arcane arts and the intellectual equal of even the most legendary spellcasters — the mind of Remedy, and now the mind of The Forgotten.
Habitat
He is a creature of the scriptorium and the battlefield, and he keeps both wherever the company goes. In the old world he kept with Remedy in its halls of study; in this one he keeps with the six, and the tent has a way of filling with notes when he is in it. He is at home in the quiet and in the chaos — in the library and in the middle of a fight — because to him both are the same problem, just wearing different clothes.
Appearance
Gaunt, ink-stained, and mid-thought before you have finished introducing yourself. Wreckreate stands 1.8 m with an Erudite's lean, coiled build — shoulders slightly forward, the way of a man who is always three lines ahead of whatever is in front of him. His skin is a pale parchment, and his hands are the most famous thing about him: stained ink-black at the fingertips and along the right hand, a map of every spell he has written down and every one he has argued with. His hair is a wild mop of silver-gray, uncombed, and it has a habit of falling into his eyes at the exact moment he stops noticing. His eyes are a pale blue, and they are never quite on you — they are on the problem, and you are, at best, part of it. His distinguishing mark is the charcoal robe: sleeves rolled to the elbow, ink-stained at the cuffs, with a dozen hidden pockets, each one holding a different argument. Elders of his kind go grayer and slower, their hands going steadier; Wreckreate is young-elder — the gray is still wild, the hands still ink-black, and he is still arguing with the rules of magic while the rest of you are reading them. He wears the charcoal robe over dark leathers, the ink-stained hands, and a short blade he has never once drawn.
Warfare & Markings
He fights the way he thinks — precise, layered, and a half-move ahead. Where Uaellaen's power was raw and elemental, Wreckreate's was surgical — a scalpel compared to a hammer. He will not break the spell; he will find the one word in it that is wrong and turn it. His one true mark is the ink-black right hand, the map of every argument he has ever had with magic, and the short blade at his hip that he has never once drawn — because the blade is not the point, the argument is. In battle he keeps his hands moving, writing even then, because the fight is a problem and the problem is worth the ink.
Behaviour
Brilliant, eccentric, and endlessly curious. He approached magic like a puzzle — every spell was a problem to solve, every battle an experiment to run. He complemented Uaellaen perfectly: Uaellaen was power, Wreckreate was precision. He is not rude; he is absorbed, and the absorption makes him miss the room. He is the first to argue with a rule and the first to admit when the rule was right, and the admitting is rarer and rarer.
"Wreckreate didn't just cast spells. He rewrote the rules of magic while others were still learning the alphabet."
Magic Alignment
Arcane mastery, precise. His signature is Mana Burn — the ability to drain and destroy an opponent's magical energy in a single strike. He could mana-burn lesser dragons in one shot. He holds Arcane Mastery over all schools, Spell Innovation — he is constantly developing new spells and techniques — and Surgical Precision, the thing that makes him a scalpel where Uaellaen is a hammer. His power is not the biggest; it is the sharpest. The price: he argues with the rules of magic, and the rules of magic sometimes answer, and the answering costs.
Society
He was the mind of Remedy, one of the two pillars of its magical might alongside Uaellaen, and the fourth member of the inner circle — the mage, the wizard, and the two ogre warriors who protected them. In The Forgotten he is still the mind, now of the six and of whatever they become. He is the one the company asks, and the one who answers, and the one who is usually still arguing with the answer.
Culture & Lore
The wiki keeps him as the mind of Remedy and the mind of The Forgotten, and the tale is told mostly by Uaellaen, who is the only person who has ever matched him in raw arcane output and lost the argument anyway. The old world said the wizard who could drain a dragon; the new world says the same thing, and is slowly learning that the precision is the point, and the point is the art.
Home
He keeps with the six, in no fixed place, in the scriptorium of the old world behind him and the unknown universe in front of him. His truest home is the problem, and the problem travels.
Relations
Uaellaen — his closest friend, the power to his precision, the only one who has ever matched him. Rumzuck Umbatsch and Smackage — the two ogre warriors, the shield and the heart of the core. Remedy — the guild that raised him. The Forgotten — the company he now minds. In a world whose magic rules differ from the old world's, Wreckreate is the one most excited to find out how much.
In the Story
Wreckreate was a member of both Remedy and The Forgotten — the only one, besides Uaellaen, to hold a seat in both guilds. After the fall of Remedy, he was banished to the unknown universe with Uaellaen. He is with Uaellaen — and is now the mind of The Forgotten. In a world whose magic rules differ from the old world's, Wreckreate is the one most excited to find out how much.
"Wreckreate was the only person who could look at my elemental fusion and say 'interesting, but here's how to improve it.'"
