What It Is
A staff of ash from a named tree — the tree, the year, the hand that felled it, all three named in the fuller. The staff holds the shape of the question, and the question is the one the world has not answered: the one about the new world's magic, the language that is not wrong, just not yours.
The Making
Made by the anvil-singers and the runecasters, crossed — the ash took the shape at the anvil, and the rune took the question at the season. The staff is the answer to the question the archmage carries: the shape is held exactly, and the holding is the one the story is about.
Tier: masterwork · Damage/Role: — (arcane focus) · Held by: Uaellaen
On the ladder in The Maker's Hand, this is a masterwork — a story event, and the story remembers it.
In Stories
The staff is the one the story is told with: the narrator's hand is the staff's hand, and the hand is the one that has witnessed the death of divinity itself. When the staff is raised, the Veil sits under tension, and the tension is the one the camp has not finished arguing.
