The Recipe
Inputs: Mithril, Silver, the spell's shape held exactly, the INT of the caster-maker Output: the rune — the spell written into an object Time: a season for a rune, a year for the rune that holds
The runecraft is the only craft that writes a spell into an object: the shape has to be held exactly — vague intent makes vague magic, and the vague is the one the rune cannot hold. It is Wreckreate's line, and the line is the one the notebook-staff was made by.
The recipe is the knowledge, and the knowledge is the one the guild charges for — on the ladder in The Maker's Hand, the recipe is the middle leg: the world gives the material, the maker knows the recipe, and the item is what the maker owes.
