What It Does
The rite, kept at dawn under silence — the oath is the whole argument, and the keeping is the exchange, and the keeping is never optional. It is the ninth door's signature: the mage does not pull on the Veil, the mage keeps the oath, and the god on the other side of the oath answers. Which god answers is a question the story keeps open — the door is defined by the oath, and the oath is the one Uuaellaen keeps.
The Cost
Circle 4 · Faith · Exchange: devotion (a silence kept, at dawn) — casting time one dawn. On the ladder in The Veil, the devotion rung is the price.
The Failure
The silence is broken a beat too early, and the oath keeps the tension — the rite is kept, and the rite is the one who is not the rite, and the one who keeps it is the one the story is about.

The High Priest's dawn rite; the one the camp does not watch twice, because the keeping is the one the reader has to witness.
