The Recipe
Inputs: Leather, Hide, thread, the maker's hand Output: the coat, the scale, the rider's gear — the lower armor ladder Time: a week for a coat, a month for the scale
The tailoring is the floor of the armor ladder made honest: the hide and the leather, the cut and the stitch, the coat that is the one the world is made of. It is the craft of the man who expects a cut — and the expecting is the one the maker has to make right.
The recipe is the knowledge, and the knowledge is the one the guild charges for — on the ladder in The Maker's Hand, the recipe is the middle leg: the world gives the material, the maker knows the recipe, and the item is what the maker owes.
