The Source
The named tree — yew for the longbow, ash for the spear, oak for the shield — the wood that has a name is the wood that has a story.
The Yield
A tree gives a season's labor for a limb's worth; the felling is named — the tree, the year, the hand.
In the Workshop
The named wood is the floor of the ranged band: the tree is the one the story has to name, and the naming is the one the maker's line has to keep — the Vantari bowyer's whole reputation is a list of trees.
Cost band: journeyman (the named is the guild mark) — on the ladder in The Maker's Hand, the material is the floor, and the floor is the one the mine or the marsh or the tree has to give. Recipes that take it: bowyering, the armor (shield)
